While aimlessly scrolling through my ITunes, I came to the realization that some of my favorite artists might be ones you have never heard or those you never got around to listening to! I have been on a huge music kick this past week so I thought I would share with you all some of the artists you need to know about.
6. From Indian Lakes
Genre: Alternative
Label: Triple Crown Records
I fell in love with these guys about a year ago and listen to their album weekly. If you are looking for a fresh new alternative sound with the perfect mix of upbeat songs and ballads, I would definitely give these guys a listening to. They are pretty up and coming and don't have a ton of music out, but their album Able Bodies is killer. I previously talked about in this post ---> HERE.
Listen to: I Don't Know You, Your Son and My Mouth, My Lips
5. States
Genre: Indie Rock
Label: unsigned
I have been in a love affair with this band since their first EP dropped. The forces of Lydia and Copeland formed together to create this band and it has been a match made in heaven from the start. The artistry as well as the beautiful lyrics that are heard throughout all of their songs are what drew me in and got me to stick around. I have been a fan of Mindy White since her days in Lydia and I find this band to be extremely underrated. They have an EP and two albums under their belt and I am slowly waiting in anticipation for these guys to blow up. (I have snuck their music onto a few of my playlists in the past!)
Listen to: Falling For, I Hope You Stay Gone, Bones, Brighter Lights and Waiting (For Too Long) aka just listen to it all
4. Lydia
Genre: Indie
Label: 8123
I feel like this is a band that a lot of people have heard about, but have never really really really listened to. They have been all over my blog from the start - I have talked about their shows, their new music and they have been on a few playlists I've posted. Their record has even made it onto my my list of favorite albums of 2013! (see post --> HERE) Nevertheless, this is a band I strongly recommend taking a listening to. They have been around for over eleven years so there is a ton to listen to and their music really does flip-flop around so I guarantee there is going to be an album out there for you. They are a band I strongly believe everyone can like - they are always on my list of recommendations when people ask for bands to listen to. Their music is just GOOD - its powerful, its magical and there is probably one song (or a whole fucking album) that you can relate to.
Listen to: The Exit, Wish You Well, Now The One You Once Loved Is Leaving and Skin+Bones
3. Daughter
Genre: Indie-folk
Label: Glassnote
If their lyrics don't sell you, I don't know what will. This is a band I never get sick of listening to and I always find myself finding a new favorite song. They are the perfect soft jams to listen to when you are trying to sleep or just need a moment to relax. Again, this is a band that has a song that you will relate too perfectly. Their sound is unlike anything I have heard in their genre - there is something so ghostly, so honest and so sad about it. I am hooked. Elena's voice is so unique and different from other female singers out there - Daughter has something in them that I can't describe. You are going to have to listen for yourself to understand what I mean.
Listen to: Medicine, Smother, Candles and Tomorrow
2. Ryan Adams
Genre: Rock
Label: PAX-AM (owned by him)
You haven't lived your life properly if this guy isn't a part of your music collection in some manner. Some might recognize his music from the indie movie Elizabethtown and so on (I think he made a cameo in This Is 40??), but this is a guy that knows how to make different music on each album. One minute he's country, then rock, then alternative and so on. However, no matter what sound he goes for, it always sounds GOOD. With a discography that can't be counted in two hands, you are going to have to do your homework on this one. While he is one of my favorite singer/songwriters/performers out there, there are a few of this albums that I hold near and dear to my heart - Easy Tiger, Love Is Hell, Gold and Rock N' Roll. If you are looking for a true singer/songwriter to add to your music collection, give this guy a listening to.
Listen to: California, Everybody Knows, Sylvia Plath, Come Pick Me Up and Wild Flowers
1. The Subways
Genre: Alternative Rock
Label: Cooking Vinyl/Warner
Shit, this band has been in my life for almost seven years! I remember seeing these guys in a hole in the wall Seattle venue back in 2008. My cousin was in a cast and my sister's french foreign exchange student was with us and we lost her. Oh and I was 14. Anyway, to the music. I really don't remember how I first heard of these guys, but I do know it was before they made an appearance on The O.C. back in the day. Their album, Young For Eternity, is essential to my music collection and has been for years. Hailing from the UK, these guys are the typical rock music you would expect. I have always been such a huge fan of their sound because it is honest, but holds a tone of rebellion in its' composition. They are just a fucking good band - original and true to what kind of band that strive to be. They haven't been back to Seattle since their 2008 show and I am slowly waiting for their return.
Listen to: Shake! Shake!, Lostboy, Always Tomorrow and I Want To Hear What You've Got To Say
Hope all is well.
Just love me:
