Best Products For Maintaining Silver Hair

I thought I would do a simple, easy post about the best products I have tried for maintaining silver hair. A lot of the products I have mentioned are a bit scattered on this blog so I thought I would make one big post with everything on it. All of these products have been mentioned on my blog before!

Prep:
Provoke Touch of Silver Pre-Toning Primer:
When I'm in the shower, I spray this over my wet hair before shampooing. It preps the hair for toning and allows the shampoo to take better to the hair. It's a simple step and product that has allowed me to see a lot of difference in my hair. The formula also helps to nourish the hair and keep it smooth and soft.

Shampooing:
Provoke Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo
This is probably the most accessible shampoo because it is available at Boots. I don't think you can get this product in the states though. It was really cheap, I think I paid about two pounds and it will most likely be the one I use for my duration here in the UK. (I will give Bleach London's shampoo a try though). It's a rather thin consistency so I have to use more of the product than I have with other shampoos, but it does an incredible job at toning. I probably leave it in my hair for a little over five minutes in the shower, it doesn't leave a purple tint to my hair unless I leave it in for a long time and it really does neutralize the yellow color particularly by my root line.
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Color Save Silver Shampoo
This is my second favorite purple shampoo. It was recommended to me and I use to buy it off Amazon for about seven dollars. It is a thicker consistency and resembles the Provoke shampoo in many ways. This was definitely a stronger formula and would dry out my scalp if I left it on for too long. But with just rinsing, it neutralizes the yellow tones in the hair very well and the bottle lasts a really long time!
Fudge Urban's Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo
This is some hefty stuff. It's a product that has been featured on my blog over the years and is still my favorite purple shampoo although I haven't used it in a while. It is the thickest, darkest purple shampoo you will ever use! It does wonders to the hair and doesn't leave it feeling dry or brittle. Be careful because it will leave a purple tint in your hair if you leave it on for too long. I haven't figured out where to buy this in the UK yet, but I need to get my hands on it soon. I used to special order this off of Beautybay.com because they ship to the US and I could get it for a decent price. The bottle lasts forever! Because the consistency is so thick, you don't need to use a ton of it every time you wash your hair.

Conditioning:
Provoke Touch of Silver Intensive Conditioner
I bought this along with the shampoo and primer at Boots when I first got to the UK. I am not big on using purple toning conditioners because I normally use a hair mask for conditioning. I only use this product after I've just bleached and done my hair, using it after shampooing and before a mask. I don't think a toning conditioner is completely necessary, but this one does a great job at nourishing the hair and toning it even further after using a shampoo. However, a shampoo does a lot more toning of the hair than any purple conditioner will. Because it's a conditioner, it just doesn't tone or penetrate the hair like a shampoo does. For those who want this hair color, I would more recommend a hair mask over conditioner, but this would be the product I would recommend for those wanting to go a different route.

Masks:
Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Deep Conditioner
I randomly picked this up at a Grocery Outlet or somewhere in the states and instantly fell in love with it. While it does kind of have a sunscreen scent, this is one of the best deep conditioners I have used. After all the bleaching and toning on my hair, it made it feel so smooth and soft after getting out of the shower. It's a very inexpensive product and a little goes a long way so a pouch can last up to four washes depending on how much hair you have.
Clear Intense Hydration Treatment Mask
I use this mask more when I am having scalp problems. After bleaching, my scalp is extremely irritated and flaky so I turn to this product. The cactus extract in the formula causes a cooling sensation on my scalp that gives me instant relief when it is incredibly irritated and dry. I have never had a mask heal and hydrate my scalp as quick as this product. I brought it with me to the UK because it is the mask I always use immediately after bleaching my hair.

Bleach London Reincarnation Mask
I am so thankful this product is now in my life. It is the mask I use twice a week and not only does it smell incredible, but my hair has never looked shiner or appeared healthier. You can't get any Bleach London products in the states unfortunately due to regulations, but if you are able to get your hands on it, do it! It is extremely gentle on the hair and really hydrates it and brings it back to life. I don't know what I am going to do when I go home without having access to it! It's about six pounds at Boots and a tube of it lasts forever.

Chemical Toners:
These two products are my essentials for maintaining my hair color after bleaching. I can't live without them. They aren't available in the UK so my mom has to send them to me from the states because I simply can't keep my current hair color without them. They are available on Amazon and other websites.
Wella T-14 Pale Ash Blonde Permanent Liquid Hair Toner
This is the product I use immediately after bleaching. Once my hair has reached a banana/pale yellow color, I apply this all over. It is a BLUE based toner which means it helps neutralizes and remove ORANGE tinted color from the hair. This step is incredibly important because you CANNOT get silver/white/grey toned hair if your hair has tints of orange or dark yellow in it because even with shampoo, the colors are too dark to lift and turn to grey.
Wella T-18 Lightest Ash Blonde Permanent Liquid Hair Toner
I use this toner after the Wella T-14. It is a PURPLE based toner which means it neutralizes pale YELLOW tones in the hair. After using the T-14, my hair is usually a very pale yellow so I use this product to take the rest of the color out, as well as get rid of the blueish cast the T-14 leaves on my hair sometimes. The product eventually turns a dark purple, almost black color on my head and once I rinse it, my icy grey/silver hair is there!

And those are the products I use to keep my hair look healthy!

Hope all is well.
