Hair Series: Tips For Healthy and Happy Hair (and self)

I am such a hair Nazi and my entire family knows it. I have a lot of rules when it comes to hair and I thought I would share with you some of the basic rules I have when it comes to maintaining the health and color of my hair

1. See this post.

2. Shampoo your hair twice a week - because my hair has been stripped and dyed so many times, I honestly wash my hair twice a week to keep the natural oils in it.
Product I Use: Bumble and Bumble's Seaweed Shampoo

3. Use a comb, not a brush - hair brushes can be tough on your hair which is why I use only a comb when I brush my hair.

4. Leave in conditioner is your best friend - to keep my hair soft, healthy and maintained, I ALWAYS apply leave in conditioner into my hair after washing it. It really helps to build strength back into my hair.
Product I Use: Suave's Natural Infusion Strengthening Leave-In Conditioner

5. Don't put heat on it - I always braid my hair after getting out of the shower and sleep with the braids in. This helps to add the wavy texture to my hair so I hardly ever use any type of heating tool on my hair. (and by hardly, I mean once every two months or so). Heating tools badly dry out and damage your hair so give it a break as much as possible. If you do use heating tools, using heat protectant spray!! It's so important!
Product I Use: TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protectant Shine Spray

6. Hair masks are wonderful - About once a month, I use a really good hair and scalp mask on my head to really deep condition and build the strength in my hair and on my scalp. My scalp gets especially dry from all of the bleach so this stuff really comes to handy. Doing a hair mask/treatment right before you go into the salon to get your roots done is good too! That's around the time I do mine!
Products I Use: Palmer's Deep Conditioning Protein Pack and Bumble and Bumble's Mending Masque

7. Only use purple shampoo once a week - This is a rule for myself since I only shampoo my hair twice a week. Purple shampoo can be very drying to the hair because it is a very strong hair product so while it is essential towards maintaining this hair color, I do recommend you use it for a longer period of time once a week (I leave mine in for a half hour) rather than multiple times a week. This will not only help you save some of the product, but it keeps my hair from turning an awkward (and uneven) purple tint.
Product I Use: Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo

8. Dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo - when your roots get greasy, the mixture of heat on your scalp causes the brassy color you work so hard to get rid of to slowly come back. Since I refrain from washing my hair more than once a week - I always have dry shampoo by my side to help me out. It keeps your hair fresh and helps to maintain the color.
Products I Use: Batiste's Dry Shampoo (in floral and flirty blush)

9. Take vitamins - I recently got back into taking a daily hair, skin and nails vitamin and I have really seen a difference in my hair. It is growing at a faster rate and my hair is a lot shiner and overall looks healthier. It's a small way to make a difference in your hair and skin.
Product I Use: Naturalist's Hair Skin and Nails Vitamin

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
