There were so many flawless stars on the Emmys carpet and I fell in love with SO MANY dresses! This might just be one of the longest award show fashion posts I have ever done.
5. Taylor Schilling in Zuhair Murad Couture
This dress fits her frame wonderfully. It shows off her shape and the small, dainty accessories really allow for the beadwork and detailing of the gown to be the focus. This look could have been easily over accessorized, but the consistent color throughout it all really compliments her skin tone. I love that they went for the up-do so the shape of the top half of the dress could be shown. The makeup is done perfectly - the smokey eye and the nude lip really brings it together.
4. Claire Danes in Givenchy
I have always LOVED Claire in nude tones (her Emmy's dress last year was my favorite of the night!), but I LOVE this bold color on her. This is a custom made gown and it fits her wonderfully. I love the lace covered cut outs and open back that tastefully allows for a pop of skin. There were a lot of red dresses on the carpet last night, but this dress really stuck out because of its silhouette and beautiful neck - it wasn't just a consistent fabric. The added belt, the lace and drapery of the skirt were all incredibly incorporated together and perfect for Claire. While I wish she would have gone for a nude lip, the hair is perfectly pulled back and again, the minimal accessories really allows for the dress to shine through.
3. Sarah Hyland in Christian Siriano
The entire styling of this look is incredible. It's very age appropriate and perfect for the Emmy's. First, the coral color of the skirt is AMAZING. There wasn't a ton of coral colors on the carpet which really allowed for this to stick out. The pulled back high bun was the perfect choice - it gives the entire outfit a balance from the head to toe - the fullness of the skirt, the small top and the high, thick bun. And Sarah's makeup was one of my favorites of the night. Again, there is another nude lip which is the perfect contrast to her structured eyebrows and dark eye makeup.
2. Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karen Atelier
YES. YES. YES. Lizzy is such a classic beauty and this dress compliments that greatly. There wasn't a ton of black dresses on the carpet and I am a HUGE fan of black gowns. The open back and cut outs on the side allow for a great balance between the beautifully draped, full skirt. The one thing I adore about this gown is the white in the back that is unexpected - it gave it another wonderful element. Again, Lizzy went with the smokey, dark eye and nude lip which was very popular on the carpet (and is a look I love). Just from head to tone, this entire ensemble really shows off the classic beauty Lizzy is. It's simple, classic and elegant - it was a great surprise to see on the carpet.

1. Kate Mara in J. Mendal
Kate is hands down one of my favorite celebrities on the carpet. She always wears such beautifully crafted and structured dresses that are sometimes unexpected for an awards show. I love absolutely everything about this dress. It was designed in a very unique way and there certainly wasn't another dress like it on the carpet. The beautiful pattern on the top of the neck and intricate fit of the bust added an element that no other dress had that night. The open back is perfectly constructed and I love the mismatched and uneven fabric of the skirt. It had a very Greek goddess appearance, but the unbalanced structure of it all really allowed it to be a one of a kind look. The design alone truly shows the craftsmanship and thought that went into it. Kate's perfectly waved hair and black mani/pedi were the perfect additions to this look. It was the perfect dress for her.
Honorable Mention:
Kate Walsh in Stephane Rolland Haute Couture
This was an unexpected favorite of mine. I honestly have a guess on which celebrities' gowns I am going to like the most and Kate Walsh has never been on that list. However, the yellow color of this dress is absolutely breathtaking. My favorite thing about it is the cut of the sleeves - it's a little more casual, but truly fits Kate's body in all of the right ways.
Julia Roberts in Elie Saab Haute Couture
I was surprised when I saw this dress was created by Elie Saab because I am used to very rectangular and structured tops. Julia was one of the only stars to wear a mini dress on the carpet last night and while I normally like to see stars in full gowns at awards shows, Julia wears this dress so well. It is age appropriate, but still has a flirty edge to it with the flared out skirt. And the casually tossed waves of her hair really compliment the silhouette. The peep-toe heels were the perfect addition to top off the look.
Gwen Stefani in Versace
This was a very unexpected gown choice for the Emmy's - I felt like it belonged at a music awards show of some sort (like the Grammy's). However, this look fits in perfectly with Gwen's style (she looks so good for her age). The silver fabric that is covered in crystals and the unique cut out design going down the top really adds an extra element of surprise. I am so glad that Gwen left her hair blunt and straight - the design and execution of the outfit is so big and out there that I feel over-styled hair would have caused the whole look to fall apart.
Worst Dressed:
Sarah Pauslon in Armani Prive
I am really still trying to figure out what happened with this. The structure of the dress is beautiful, but the hearts and mesh that is sticking out looks like she got caught in a fence or something. I was such a huge fan of her Oscars dress that I for sure thought I would love her Emmys look, but the whole thing just fell apart. It's too big and over the top - it's just a mess.
Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli
I mean, while I am being honest here, I am never a fan of what Lena Dunham wears on the carpet. The second I saw this look, I had to close my eyes. While I love the color palette and ombre of the train, the top and the skirt just DON'T GO TOGETHER. It looks like she grabbed a blouse you wear to an office and paired it with a skirt that belongs on Sesame Street. I feel like this look would have been a lot better if there had been a fitted top (perhaps not a button up blouse) and you took off a few yards of the train, getting rid of some of the fullness of the skirt. This dress had a lot of potential, but it just was a complete and utter mess in the end. Her eye makeup is very harsh and dark as well, it does not compliment the light colors of the gown.
