Summer Book Series: "Miss O'Dell" by Chris O'Dell and Katherine Ketcham

Since it is summer, I finally have time to read some of the books that have been on my reading list for some time. After I moved out of my dorm, I went on a week long trip with my mom, sister and grandma to visit my family in Eastern Montana. This gave me the perfect opportunity to read a book during the long drives.

To help add a variety of content on this blog, I thought now would be a perfect time to start a book series where I review a book I have finished reading.

Summer book #1: Miss O'Dell by Chris O'Dell and Katherine Ketcham

This is a book that has been sitting on my shelf for three years and I never got around to reading it until now. It follows the life of Chris O'Dell, an American woman who ended up working for Apple, The Beatles' company, in London. Through the years, she ended up working with many artists including the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Queen and more. With stories about her hookups, time on the road, odd jobs and battles with substance abuse, this is a book I couldn't put down.

As someone who is a fan of that time period, hearing the backstage and real stories of not only Chris O'Dell, but the musicians she met along the way, it really added more substance and understanding to how people lived during that time and also shed some light on many of the famous musicians that were a part of her life (especially Eric Clapton).

She was great friends with Pattie and George Harrison which was a part of her life I very much enjoyed because George is my favorite Beatle and is such an intriguing human. Starting from where her friendship with them began to the times where she lived with them at Friar Park, her life with them was one of my favorite parts to read. She even talked about the infidelities and new relationships between George Harrison, Maureen and Ringo, Pattie Boyd and Eric Clapton.

Hearing about her jobs and the opportunities she had from singing on "Hey Jude" to being Keith Richards' drug mule kept this book from being dull - there was always something new and exciting going on in Chris O'Dell's life.

If you are someone who loves to learn about what goes on backstage and behind the music, this is a book I strongly urge you to pick up. It's about 350 pages which makes it quite a fast read and the interchanging stories from The Beatles to The Stones and everything in between keeps the story following and incredibly hard to put down.

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
