So between moving in and not having cable, this was the first year since I remember that I missed the Emmy's! I was devastated! However, I did manage to get caught up on the fashion that was seen on the red carpet and picked out my five favorite gowns from the night!
5. January Jones in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci pre-spring/summer 2014 dress - The color of this dress is so flattering against her skin tone. I love that the cut and style of the dress isn't too extravagant, but there is still great details within the skirt. The fit really shows off her thin frame and the fact that the small patterned detailing of the skirt doesn't reach to the very bottom of the gown keeps the dress from looking too busy. With the soft waves in the hair and simple earrings, the entire outfit is classic.
4. Kelly Osbourne in Jenny Packham - Now, I am obsessed with this woman if you didn't already know. Her body is rocking and this dress shows off her figure in all of the right ways. I love how it isn't just a simple red dress, but the black lace detailing in the back is the perfect touch and is done in the right way to keep the gown from looking like lingerie. Kelly always keeps it simple with the jewelry which I think worked greatly for her in this case because it keeps the focus on the dress. Red is always a perfect color for someone with fair skin and this bright shade compliments her beautiful complexion perfectly.
3. Kerry Washington in Marchesa - As if Kerry wasn't beautiful already, she had to knock it out of the park with this number. I think white tone dress on those with darker skin tones look incredible (it really makes the color POP)! The white detailing in the top and flowers with the off-white material of the dress is the perfect balance because it doesn't leave the dress looking so bright that it blinds you. Flower detailing on a dress makes me weepy and the roses on this dress may be huge, but they are done in such a tasteful way that it doesn't look tacky. This was the PERFECT dress for Kerry.
2. Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo - I want this dress so badly. This is what I called an age appropriate dress. With Kiernan being only thirteen (I KNOW), there has to be a balance in the dresses that she wears. It is so easily for her to look too old and too young (Sarah Hyland, I am looking at you), but this dress is perfect. The color scheme of the top is perfection - I love the crisp white with the bright colors of the flowers. And the skirt is just as amazing - the flowers that glitter the dress give off a youthful look without being overly tacky. Having the dress not be floor length was also an amazing style choice to keep the dress from being too much. Since the dress is so loud itself, I am glad the gown was paired with those simple gold Jimmy Choo heels that allow the focus to be on the dress. This is such a fun and classy way for a thirteen year old to dress for an award show - I LOVE IT.
1. Claire Danes in Armani - You cannot get much classier than this. This was the perfect dress for Claire Danes. The fair nude color of the gown allows the outfit to look innocent, but the low cut back and small straps bring everything to a whole new level of sophistication. With the simple jewelry, this ensemble is effortlessly beautiful. The fine detailing of the gown is minor, but crucial because it keeps it all from looking like a nightgown. Claire has such a beautiful body and this gown hugs her frame in all of the right ways. I love that her hair is simply done and the soft red lips really bring the outfit all together. YES. YES. YES. The open back and exposed skin is done so tastefully that this dress in no way looks too revealing - it is the perfect mix between sexy and classic.
