Conditioning is one of the key steps towards maintaining your hair and keeping it healthy. At the beginning of my quest to achieve the hair color I currently have, I fried my scalp and a chunk of my hair literally broke off from my head so please please please please - take care of your hair!
Pro tip: Only use products that are white, purple or blue in color! I noticed in the beginning that the color of the product would wash out and tint my hair the color slightly! (or I am just losing my mind)
There are three times of conditioning: shower conditioning, hair treatment, and leave-in conditioners and products.
Hair Treatments
About once every two weeks or a few days before/after I bleach, I throw these treatments onto my hair (at different times).
Palmer's Deep Conditioning Protein Pack - for about $1.50 a pack at Target, you get at least two uses out of it depending on how much hair you have. I used this after I bleach my hair because it deep conditions and helps put back in the elasticity and nutrients into my hair. It's one you don't have to leave in too long (15 minutes for me) and it really does help to bring my hair back to a healthy and manageable state. And it smells great, too.
Clear's Scalp and Hair Beauty Treatment - This brand is also sold at Target. This is my pre and post bleaching product. I have a very sensitive and dry scalp so if it is not in the shape to have bleach or any chemical on it, I lather this on in the shower two separate times and it really moisturizes my scalp better than any other product I have used. The same goes for post bleaching if my scalp is over irritated, the product is gentle and very cooling on an over irritated scalp. And at the same time, it nourishes your hair!
Shower Conditioning
This is my shower conditioner that I use throughout the week when my scalp is in good shape. This line of conditioners hasn't failed me yet and this is a conditioner that really moisturizes my hair and doesn't have to be left on line to see the results. You also don't have to use a lot of it to coat your hair so you get some bang for your buck (I think this was about $5).
Leave-in Conditioning
My hair would be a wreck post shower if I didn't have these two products to put in at the end of the day.
Suave Professional's Strengthening Leave-In Cream - Leave-in conditioner is your best friend. It continues to nourish your hair after showering and makes it a lot easier to comb when your hair is wet. I would highly suggest a CREAM leave-in conditioner as opposed to a spray because the cream can really penetrate your hair in a way that sprays, foams and serums can't.
Pro Tip: Use a wide tooth comb after showering to smooth out your hair - the bristles on average brushes cause breakage!
Organix's Argan Oil of Morocco - I have talked about this product multiple times on my blog. As a product that isn't as important as a leave-in conditioner, moroccan oil really smooths out your hair and helps build back up your hair after bleaching, toning and dyeing. I apply this into my hair (from about my eye line all the way down) after putting in the leave-in conditioner to add some more nourishing products into it.
Just love me:
