The Northwest Dweeb Takes London: Catfish and The Bottlemen @ O2 Academy Brixton

After being obsessed with them for the past year, I finally got to see Catfish and the Bottlemen live. Having only turned 21 just last month, I was never able to see them in the states because they played only 21+ venues which was more than disappointing.

I bought the ticket for this show way back in August because I knew there was no way I was going to miss it. I even went by myself which I normally wouldn't do, but I wasn't going to let that get in the way of seeing them. They are featured on almost every single monthly playlist I have done this past year and I listen to them at least one a day.

Their live show is incredible. First off, the UK crowds are a lot different than how they are in the states and I think that is due to the fact that the drinking age here is 18. People were hyped and energized the entire night and I have NEVER heard a crowd as loud as they were.

My favorite performance of the night was definitely "Hourglass". It's my favorite song on their album, The Balcony, so I was really excited to hear the acoustic track live. The crowd was singing so loud and passionately that Van McCann, the lead singer, stepped away from his microphone to let the crowd sing. You can watch a clip of that moment here. Now, I know that this is a moment that happens at almost every live show, but there was something in the air that made it seem so much more special. It's a feeling that I will never be able to explain, you had to be there I guess.

It was a very special show to be a part of it because this tour that Catfish and the Bottlemen are on right now is the biggest tour they have ever done. Just last year, they were playing London's Barfly to five hundred people and now they are selling out two nights at the O2 Academy Brixton and playing to ten thousand.

Being in the crowd that night was almost surreal because this is a band that is not very popular in the states and there I was, halfway around the world, watching a band with people that loved them as much as I do.

It's been amazing seeing their success skyrocket over the past year and I am so happy I had the chance to be apart of this tour and see how far they have come. I hope they tour again soon and also release new music.

You can read the full review I did of the gig ---> HERE.

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
