The Northwest Dweeb Takes London: Finally Seeing Daughter

At about 3:30 yesterday, I snagged a ticket to go and see Daughter. As an artist that I have listened to for years, I have never been able to go to one of their shows because they always sell out so quickly! I was hesitant to go by myself, but decided to just do it because I didn't know when I would be able to see them next.

The show was at St. John-At-Hackney which is both a music venue and church. The venue was beautiful with an incredible stage set up and the fact that it was inside a church made the experience unique. The acoustics in the building were very good considering the building was not created for live music shows.

I ended up chatting with a few people in line and they ended up being who I spent the entire concert with. Since they were locals, we spent a lot of time comparing and contrasting England and America which is always an interesting conversation.

Me with Daniella, Lorcan and Jessie

Daughter hit the stage at about nine and I was mesmerized from start to finish. I listen to them pretty much everyday and getting to hear some of my favorite songs live is always one of the best experiences. I was especially happy when they played "Smother" which is one of my favorite songs of all time in all honestly.

The crowd was amazing, being near silent while the band was performing and singing along to each song. They were incredibly respectful and it was clear that every individual were as excited to be there as the next.

The highlight of the night was probably "Youth" because it is a clear fan favorite. Fans not only cheered the loudest at the beginning and end of the song, but they sang the loudest too. The venue was small, only a couple hundred people in the crowd, making it a very special and intimate performance for everyone that was there.

Daughter played a few new songs off of their upcoming album and I am so excited for them to finally release new music. All of their new songs are incredibly written and constructed.

For those of you who haven't heard of Daughter, I highly suggest you give them a listening to. Their music is extremely relatable which is why their fanbase is so strong and passionate about the music. Elena's voice is so unique and different from anyone else I have heard in the industry. The amount of vulnerability shown in her singing and lyrics causes every Daughter song to mesh with your emotions. Each song is so beautifully put together and I really do believe there is something in their music for everyone.

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
