The 90's Were My Shit

Born in 1994, the 90's is probably my favorite decade in history. Between the Lisa Frank stickers, my Anastasia princess costume and walking around with my Hit Clips, I still managed to be pretty damn adorable through the ten years where the fads weren't the best (but hey, that doesn't mean I don't love them).

Reppin' the streets of Ballard with Molly, my Barbie blanket, Little Mermaid sheets and Lion King dress. Oh yeah, I was the shit.

The hair though.

Bow headbands for life with the sister.

Anyway after playing my copy of Joey McIntyre's Stay The Same (that was my jam), I decided that I was going to make a post about the movies, music and trends from the 1990's that are still with me today.
Movies

3. While You Were Sleeping - There is nothing better than a good romantic comedy from the 90's. This one happens to make me happy on all levels. With Peter Gallagher's eyebrows, Bill Pullman's receding hairline and Sandra Bullock's famous innocent humor shown throughout the flick - what isn't there to love? Oh and let's not forget about Joe Jr. - he's a legend.

2. Ten Things I Hate About You - Teen romantic comedies are my shit. Between Letters To Cleo playing throughout the whole movie and baby Joseph Gorden-Levitt, I can watch this entire movie over and over again and not get sick of it. Most of the time, I believe I am a lot like Kat. The setting is Washington too which brings this film even closer to my heart. And Health Ledger's role in this film caused him to be one of my first celebrity crushes.
That is all.
1. Titanic - If you know me well, you know that this movie is my favorite of all time. I have watched it so many times that I can literally recite scenes in my head. Its such a beautifully written and directed film and I fell in love with it at the age of five (yes, I saw this shit when I was five). And while watching this film at that age, I began my emotional relationship with Leonardo Dicaprio and it is still going strong. If you have never seen this movie, I cannot be your friend. "Okay, so she's a really old god damn liar."

Honorable Mention  - Movies
Spice World
Heavy Weights
Mrs. Doubtfire

Music
3. Oasis - They are the perfect representation of what brit-rock music was like in the 1990's. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? is the second most sold album in the UK to this day and it was for a reason. They are the perfect somber rock music that wasn't as intense as the grunge age during those years, but still managed to get a point across.
2. Spice Girls - They were one of the first bands I ever fell in love with and were a few of my biggest role models growing up. I remember getting their Barbie dolls and watching Spice World over and over with my sister. They changed the pop music genre for the better. They were one of the first girl groups out there to really go out there and show that the music scene isn't all led by males. I jam these girls constantly and they will never ever get old. Girl Power! And with my dress only persona as a child, I was obviously a Posh girl. "Should I wear the little Gucci dress or the little Gucci dress?"
1. Nirvana - They are easily one of my favorite bands of all time. Growing up in Washington, I didn't get hooked on Nirvana until I was older because my parents weren't really into them, but fuck, I love those guys. The grunge era during the 1990's is so awesome to learn about and really understand because its all about a music genre that was frowned upon by so many, but soon led to one of the most famous bands around. I don't think I will ever be able to express how much Nirvana means to me - it is just something I can't put into words.

Honorable Mention - Music
New Radicals
Backstreet Boys
Britney Spears

Duhhh, I made a 90's playlist. Check it out -----------> here.

Trends
3. Crimped hair - This is a trend I still rock from time to time (see photo below) and I honestly still love it. Topanga has obviously taken it to a while other level, but I still haven't figured out why people hated this hair style so much when I actually LOVE it. I mean, what is cooler than having huge crimped hair?
^ Me rocking crimped and green hair for New Years Eve!
2. Overalls - I spent most of the 90's making fun of my sister who wore overalls every day, but looking back, I wish I rocked them as much as she did. Overalls are CLEARLY a 90's trend that are coming back and I know exactly why - they are so damn comfortable. As a guilty owner of two pairs of overall shorts, they are probably the greatest thing in the entire world and I will be rocking a few other pairs on my college campus this year.
1. Florals and Denim and Plaid - Basically anything worn in My So Called Life is my favorite 90's fad. I LITERALLY dress on an everyday basis like Rayanne and Angela. It was cool in the 90's to dress like a grandma who was on her way to a grunge concert, why shouldn't it still be cool now? The mom jeans and oversized plaid shirts that you tied around your waist - ahhh, there is nothing better than that.

Honorable Mention - Trends
Scrunchies
Lisa Frank
Hit Clips
Justin & Britney

Note that My So Called Life is on my list of favorite TV shows from the 90's, but I couldn't narrow that shit down.
