I just got through watching the documentary No Cameras Allowed and I highly encourage everyone who loves music, art, adventure and great life stories to check it out. I had heard about this film a few months ago and while I will teeter back and forth on the whether or not what Marcus Haney was fair or ethical - this was a damn good documentary.
There needs to be more music documentaries like this out in the world. As someone who has gotten a taste of the backstage, press and media antics that go on during every event, show or festival - there is far more out there to document than the artist onstage (press always has some loud personalities).
Following the travels and truly unrealistic plans of photographer Marcus Haney - this film sheds a lot of light on music festivals across the world. Haney's claim to fame was done by scheming up ways to sneak into festivals and trick security into thinking he was actually supposed to be there. His antics at festivals such as Coachella and Austin City Limits are suspenseful and truly are a great source of entertainment.
As someone who photographs shows and festivals herself, I feel as though some of the things he got away with were unfair to other photographers who worked just as hard and didn't get approved to shoot the festivals. However, I will hand it to the guy, he worked damn hard and acted his ass off to get the job done. It takes a lot for someone to sneak into some of the largest festivals in the world.
Featuring bands such as Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes and Grouplove - this film is carefree, fun and will leave you smiling at the end. Talking about his own personal story, the people in Haney's life as well as the struggles with his family and education really do allow for a realistic and relatable side to the film.
In a sense, see this documentary as an updated (and more ruthless) version of Almost Famous.
Everyone can get something out of this.
And damn, I wish I was at a music festival right now.

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
