Tunes Thursday: The Kooks' Listen

Released September 8th, 2014

I have been highly anticipating the release of this album for months despite the fact that I wasn't getting to ojiggy with their first single "Down". However, as a whole, this album is nothing but brilliant.

The overall production of this album is completely different than any of their prior releases. As a band mostly known for their stripped down and guitar heavy songs, The Kooks really turned it around with Listen. Every song holds lyrics that stand true to The Kooks, but the overall musical composition of the album is way ahead of where they were with their last release, Junk Of The Heart. Every single song has multiple instruments and beats incorporated, creating this harmonious sound with high energy. Your ear will catch something new every time you listen to this album.

I was a little hesitant at first with their new sound because it had a much different vibe than The Kooks I have been listening to over the years. However, the psychedelic path they seem to be on with this new release is exactly the path I think they should be on. It's fun, it's well written and it proves that The Kooks can always reinvent their sound while still keeping their roots that cemented their place in the music industry.

For a lot of bands like The Kooks, while each song is still beautiful, their sound and style can really start to become redundant and lose listeners' interests who are partial to the band's first or second albums. Listen is the perfect step forward for them, however. It's with the times and is exactly with the genre has been evolving into over the past few years.

It is very clear by the second song that they really stepped up the production of this album which is why it probably took them so long to record and release it (I thought they had literally fallen off the face of the earth). Each and every song could really stand alone as an individual piece - there are different instruments used throughout every track and somehow, the entire album cohesively goes together.

Flat out, it's just good music. There are over the top songs as well as some Kooks ballads that cause girls' hearts to swoon.

Listen to: See Me Now, Westside, Forgive & Forget and Sweet Emotion

I am hard at working getting together a 2 part (possibly 3 part) New York Fashion Week post for everyone - I fell in LOVE with so many collections this year. As well, the next part of my hair series will be up this weekend.

Hope all is well.
Just love me:
